The Music Therapy Program at kidsLINK

What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is proven to enhance emotional and mental wellness and is a vibrant part of the interdisciplinary team at kidsLINK .

Music therapy is a process where kids participate in musical experiences with a trained music therapist to help achieve their treatment goals.  No previous musical experience is necessary.  Kids who are referred to the program participate in individual or group sessions.

How Kids Benefit

Sometimes words can’t quite express what kids want to say.  Music therapy can be especially helpful for kids who have experienced trauma – kids can process their experience in a safe environment through sound, imagination, and musical interaction.

Community Involvement

The Music Therapy Program at kidsLINK aims to foster involvement with the musical community to provide further opportunities for our kids.   We are connected to Wilfrid Laurier University through music therapy student placements allowing kids access to more service.  We are also connected to the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony through their “Music in the Classroom” and “HeartStrings” programs, allowing kids the opportunities to attend live musical events.

Funding

The Music Therapy Program at kidsLINK is entirely reliant on outside funding.  We offer many heartfelt thanks to our donors for continuing to make this service accessible to our kids.
