Little boy choosing between a cupcake and apple

“Wellness is an interactive process of becoming aware of and practicing healthy choices to create a more successful and balanced lifestyle.”

Process means that you never arrive at a point where there is no further possibility of improving.
Aware means that you are by nature continuously seeking more information about how you can improve.
Choices mean that you have considered a variety of options and selected those that seem to be in your best interest.
Success is determined by you to be your personal collection of accomplishments for your life.

Why see a naturopathic doctor?

Naturopathic medicine is a comprehensive health approach that uses treatment protocols based on nutrition and other natural therapies.  Naturopathic doctors treat all forms of health concerns. This ranges from acute symptoms to chronic illness and from the physical to the psychological.

There are typically three ways in which naturopathic medical care can help children:

1.  Disease prevention and health promotion strategies

2.  Treatment of primary health concerns ex. Anxiety, ADHD, Depression, Insomnia.  Many children have a range of symptoms that they have been unable to fully address on their own or with the help of other medical practitioners. With Naturopathic medicine’s broad understanding of health, naturopathic doctors are often able to offer patients a new perspective and provide safe and effective ways to restore health using natural methods.

3.  Medication Support.  Naturopathic medicine is very effective in improving health and quality of life for children who are managing their symptoms through medications. It is used extensively and effectively for those patients that are looking to combine conventional and naturopathic treatments. The aim is minimizing side effects to drugs or conventional treatments and preventing potential long-term health effects from the use of these medications. Examples of this would include helping with medication related sleep or appetite concerns or correcting nutrient deficiencies created by a medication.

The naturopathic philosophy is to treat the root cause of disease.  For many, this approach to health provides them with a new perspective and awareness. By addressing the root cause(s) of disease and through the appropriate use of natural therapies many families have found tremendous benefits for their children struggling with mental health concerns.
